I thought i had photographed Blean Woods on numerous occasions , then i realise there is an East and West Blean woods as well, so on my day off and a rest from decorating as the newly skimmed room needed to dry out, i packed my camera gear and headed out for a new bit of woodland, at least photographically speaking for me.
I drove down the A249 Thanet way and took the Reculver turn off , instead of turning right i turned left and headed towards East Blean Woods, following Google Maps on my mobile as i have never visited before. It was only around a twenty minuet drive to the car park from my house , so pretty local really. When i arrived in the car park i was the only car there. Apart from the fact it was still a little early there was also the small matter of the car park charges, i was not expecting to have to pay to visit a local woodland, and if that was not bad enough there was not even a meter to make any payment at. The payment had to be made via a mobile app or online before midnight on the day of visit. When i arrived back at the over four hours later , i was still, the only car in the car park. I wonder how many people are put off visiting as a result of these charges ?
After getting all my gear out the car i put on the backpack and blindly headed off into the woodland without any knowledge of what i would find. I did feel that the paths were not as well sign posted as many other ( free to park ) woodlands i have visited. The woodland seems to be a pretty heavily coppiced woodland with several areas quiet open allowing lots of light to reach the forest floor. There was also plenty of signs of wild flowers so will have to return early spring as i am sure there will be a nice display of flowers.
For several days prior to my visit we had had some heavy rain and so the woodland itself was very saturaturated making walking in places difficult. Luckily i had come prepared with my Muck Boot Artic Sport wellington style boots, highly recommended , comfortable and warm.
Due to the heavy rain and late autumn period there were several large puddles all around the trails, as i was walking around one in particular caught my eye as the single yellow leaf surrounded by darker ones and even darker water logged ground just looked to good not to try.
This was taken on a tripod , almost directly overhead looking down with a Canon Eos R, 70 – 200mm at 200mm with a circular polarizer.
Below is a 40 second clip of the video the image came from, if you would like to see more from this trip and the other images i captured then head on over to my youtube channel and watch the full length video there, maybe even give me a like and subscribe .
